EMDR Intensives

Consolidated Healing for Quicker Results

Ideal for those who:

  • Need to experience improvements quickly and are able to set aside a larger chunk of time and money upfront

  • Have a single negative experience that continues to impact them now (i.e., car accident, cancer diagnosis and treatment, miscarriage, etc.)

  • OR have a pattern of a singular experience (i.e., bullying in various forms, sexual harassment or assaults, relationships with specific type of partner, etc.)

  • OR have a belief that impacts multiple areas of life (i.e., “I’m not enough,” “I cannot trust myself / others, ”I have to please others to be safe,” etc.)

What is EMDR?

EMDR Therapy is a unique form of therapy where bilateral stimulation is used to support rewiring of the brain. Instead of trying to talk or think our way to healing, EMDR therapy can desensitize difficult feelings and change any negative beliefs we have about ourselves and the world, resulting in true healing with a strong felt-sense of healing. EMDR therapy can be done through weekly, ongoing therapy as well as half-day, full-day, or multi-day intensives. EMDR intensives consolidate the healing so you can move forward with improved symptoms and overall functioning more quickly.

What can I expect?

Before

We will meet virtually for a free consultation to discuss what you’re hoping to gain from an EMDR intensive. If your goals are appropriate for an Intensive, I will share my recommendation for length of intensive and answer any questions you have about the process.

After the consultation, I will send you a few assessments to complete prior to the intensive. Other than that, the only preparation needed is to make any arrangements for the time of the intensive, whether that is work-related, childcare-related, etc.

During

During an intensive, we begin with a thorough discussion around your past experiences, current symptoms, and what you're hoping to gain from the session so we can best create the direction of the session. I will walk you through the various ways of doing EMDR therapy to find which one feels most comfortable to you, and we practice a couple feel-good resources to use when needed. And then the majority of the time is spent reprocessing, which is like having one foot safely planted in the present and one foot in the previous experience so you can reprocess it effectively. We will stay connected to our physical needs throughout the intensive, so movement and breaks will be incorporated whenever helpful. In addition, I have a very thorough toolbox of clinical interventions to support you throughout the process when helpful.

After

You can expect to notice a reduction in symptoms of anxiety, depression, and trauma after an EMDR intensive. Some people feel tired after EMDR sessions and sleep is sometimes impacted for a couple of days.

I'm available for a follow-up session after the intensive, if desired, and I will send assessments 30 days after the intensive so we can compare pre- and post- results.

Are Intensives effective?

Absolutely! Research is showing that intensives are just as effective as ongoing therapy and you get the benefits quicker as a result of the consolidated work. If you are interested in seeing the research, see below:

If you’re interested in learning more, I offer a free 15-minute consultation to discuss your goals, discuss whether an EMDR intensive could support your goals, and share more about the process. Since the relationship between client and therapist is a big contributor to success of therapy, we’ll also assess whether we feel we’re a good fit for doing this work together. If for any reason we don’t feel like a good fit, I’m happy to share referrals of other therapists after the consultation.
